The Ateneu Comercial do Porto commissioned the Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva Foundation (FRESS) to produce 500 facsimile copies (numbered) of the 1st Edition of “Os Lusíadas” from 1572, the original of which is the property of the Ateneu.

It is a literary work – deluxe edition – of rare beauty, an epic poem of classical inspiration, consisting of ten cantos composed of tenths in heroic decasyllables. It lives from an aesthetically harmonized contradiction between the action of pagan deities and the protection of Christian sentiment and the expansion of faith, which animates an ardor of conquest and possession of the world.

This First edition of “Os Lusíadas”, generally identified as edition A, or edition Ee, today known as edition Princeps, is part of the bibliographic collection of the Ateneu.

The production of these 500 copies has been carried out in stages by FRESS, taking into account the manual finishing process, leaving only about 100 copies for sale.

At the moment, only copies are available for delivery (numbering from 40 to 70) at a price of 1,200.00 Euros with the luxury safe included. To this value must be added VAT at the rate of 23%.
