LUSÍADAS (1st facsimile edition)

The Ateneu Comercial do Porto ordered from Fundação Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva (FRESS) the production of 500 facsimile (numbered) copies of the 1st Edition of “Os Lusíadas” from 1572, whose original is owned by the Ateneu.

It is a literary work – deluxe edition – of rare beauty, an epic poem of classical inspiration, consisting of ten cantos composed of tenths in heroic decasyllables. It lives from an aesthetically harmonized contradiction between the action of pagan deities and the protection of Christian sentiment and the expansion of faith, which animates an ardor of conquest and possession of the world.

This First edition of “Os Lusíadas”, usually identified by A edition, or Ee edition, now known as Princeps edition, is part of the bibliographic collection of the Ateneu.

The production of these 500 copies has been carried out in stages by the FRESS, given the manual finishing process, with only about 100 copies left for sale.

At the moment, only copies are available for delivery (numbering from 40 to 70) at the price of 1.200,00 Euros with the deluxe safe included. To this value must be added VAT at the rate of 23%.
